Many writers I know struggle to find the perfect music for when they write, so I took the liberty of making a list of my favorite songs and albums. This is the music I use all the time and is almost entirely instrumental since I struggle listening to songs with lyrics while trying to focus on anything. I’ve also marked the ones I play on repeat with a star.

You’ll also notice that a lot of these songs come from movie and television show soundtracks. Music holds a certain power over its audience, so composers study and learn exactly what notes to hit in order to make sure the scene has the proper emotional tension. As writers, we can use this to our advantage by pulling from the emotion already in the song and channeling it to our stories.
